Important Topics in Networking for Thesis
When a set of computers shares resources with each other is known as a computer network. Nowadays, interviewers asked technical questions related to networking because it is considered as the primary requirement and an individual must be aware of the types and basics of networking. However, many individuals get confused and are not able to answer the questions due to a lack of knowledge in this field. Here are some important topics in computer networking that every individual should be aware of:-
Domain Naming System
The domain naming system is the most important part of any network infrastructure because it maps IP addresses to names and names to IP addresses. DNS should always be working for you because if DNS is working then everything is working. For instance, if an individual visits any web page without using DNS then the name would not be converted into IP address and hence webpage will not open to you.
Address Resolution Protocol (ARP)
ARP is a protocol that provides a connection between an IP address and a media access control (MAC) address in the local area network (LAN). Moreover, this procedure is important because the length of IP address and MAC address are different so that’s why a translation is required so that system can identify one another. In addition to it, IP addresses are 32bits long and MAC addresses are 48 bits long and ARP converts IP addresses to translate the 32-bit address to 48 and an address of 48-bits is converted into32-bits by ARP.
Subnetting
When the network is divided into 2 more parts of networks is called subnetting. IP subnetting is important because Users need to talk printers and email programs need to talk servers and each of them must have some different IP addresses. This is not exactly similar to house address because the one exception that is the address needs to be in numerical form.
Default Gateway
Default gateway makes it possible to connect devices of one network to devices of another network and it works as an intermediate between local network and internet. An individual can locate the default gateway if you are using their first go to the control panel and then select network and sharing center and at the end, you can choose the network of which you want to find the default gateway.
Firewalls
Firewalls act as a safeguard to your network that protects it from various attackers everyone has firewalls in your windows PC or server and routers have hardware firewalls inside them. There are various types of firewalls like proxy firewalls, Stateful inspection firewalls, unified threat management firewall, and many more.
LAN and WAN
The major difference between LAN and WAN is that LAN is a local network and commonly contained within a building and WAN is a big network and is used by most of the large companies around the world. These were the important topics in networking that everyone is aware of and every individual should prepare for it before going for an interview.
